The Gran Paradiso

After Cambridge beat Oxford in The Boat Race, I needed a sure thing. To be fair, we decided upon the Gran Paradiso while we were on the subway to the Race. I really like their shrimp with mushrooms and a wee bit of garlic starter. Lovely woodsy taste from the mushrooms and the shrimp are perfectly done as well. For the main, I went for their lam chops. Wow. Another great dish. As I had the odd beer at the Boat Race, here I only had a half bottle of red. Its tricky getting a good half red but the Gran Paradiso did not disappoint. It had great cherry and oak flavours, really juicy. Now someone is going to tell you they had nice asparagus. While I think they were good and cooked to perfection, I clearly won. MP

This is one of our Valentine’s Day haunts. Meaty likes it because they don’t do a rip off special occasion menu and I like it because they play opera and give me a balloon shaped like a heart which I insist on keeping until it is completely deflated. Anyway on a wet Saturday evening it is still a special treat. So, yes, I had lovely asparagus and then some gorgeous seafood linguine and I wanted for nothing. It is just a very old school formal Italian restaurant and everything they do is good. Service is formal but they also do a bit of hand kissing and shaking if you are a regular. It isn’t open on Sundays but it is great so make a beeline for it on other days.
